ON WANTING TO BE LIKE MAXX CROSBY ONE DAY
Maxx Crosby’s superstardom is right where he wants it to be.
Crosby has played at an incredibly high level ever since he was a fourth-round pick by the Raiders of Oakland, now Las Vegas, with three Pro Bowl selections and two Second-Team All-Pro picks. He was voted the runner-up for NFL AP Defensive Rookie of the Year award in 2019, and has been in the top-10 of voting for the Defensive Player of the Year award in each of the last two season after leading the NFL in tackles for loss in each (22 in 2022, 23 in 2023).
On top of his football-playing goals, Crosby’s very interested in legacy building. There’s a lot for him to speak on when he’s on the field, but sometimes — away from his podcasting — his legacy building requires other people to speak for him.
It’s NFL Combine week, and the new generation of football talents is letting reporters know that they want to be like that guy from the Raiders.
Byron Murphy (Texas)
At podium: “It would be a blessing with me and the Raiders. To play with a guy like Maxx Crosby, that’d be crazy. I’ve never played like a guy like that so I feel like he’d make my job much easier as well.”
Darius Robinson (Missouri)
To NBC: “Chris Jones, Maxx Crosby — he has really long arms like me. He’s always turning his shoulders, plays with a relentless motor, really sets a standard for D-line play… That’s two of the best players in the league.”
At podium: “Maxx Crosby is the best defensive lineman in the league right now. I’ll constantly watch his tape; he sets the standard for defensive line play, and that’s somebody I’d like to be like.”
At podium: “Just, the motor doesn’t stop. Every clip you watch he’s going as fast as he possibly can. He’s always turning his shoulders, upper-body rotation, always using his length, like he just plays the game very well.”
Bralen Trice (Washington)
At podium: “I love watching Micah [Parsons], I love watching Maxx [Crosby] out there. They’re like the speed guys I aspire to be like one day, if not better, their explosiveness off the line is crazy, their moves are good, they’re just naturally like that. Everybody wants to get their speed game and their pass rush moves locked-in in the league, and you know, I hope to one day be as locked-in as they are. So I’m going to keep working to be like that.
Jared Verse (Florida State)
To NBC: “You look at his play style, it’s relentless. There’s no play you can look at and he’s just — like they’re running down the sideline and he’s walking with them. That guy is just relentless no matter what.
Laiatu Latu (UCLA)
To NBC: “Like, his relentless tenacity is just, you know, speaks volumes. And every play is like his last and really his moves, he’s always working some after another. If one doesn’t work, he’s working another one in, and he’s just super crisp, and even in the run game as well.”
At podium: “The way [Crosby] plays the game, I mean he’s a madman. The way he gets after it in the run, you know, I can’t look up to him enough. Especially T.J. Watt too, he’s another dude that hits the euro-chop pretty clean.”
At podium: “I haven’t met Maxx. I talked to him on the phone a little bit, he’s given me some tips and stuff like that. In the coming weeks, I’ll be able to watch some film with him and get some fieldwork with him actually.”
